Senior Discounts on Flights, Cruises, Hotels, and More

Travel has a way of keeping the spirit young—whether it’s hopping on a plane to see the world, relaxing on a cruise, or simply checking into a cozy hotel. Of course, these adventures come with price tags that can drain your wallet dry. But the good news is that as you grow older, you can enjoy senior travel discounts. Thanks to these savings, you can turn your “someday” trips into “today” memories without worrying about the cost.

Airlines

There’s no secret that air travel can be expensive. But that shouldn’t stop you from taking your dream vacation—and thanks to budget senior travel airline deals, it never will.

United Airlines

As per United Airlines’ official website, if a senior discount is available for a flight, you’ll see it during the booking process upon selecting the “Senior 65+” option from the passengers menu. Reports say that you can expect a discount of anywhere between 5% to 25% of the base fare.

Delta Airlines

Delta keeps things hush. There’s no mention of discounted trips for retirees on their website. Some reports and blogs, however, do mention that the airline offers a discount of 5% to 15% off regular fares on select routes to seniors aged 65 and above. To get these discounts, you’ll have to call the airlines and make bookings.

Frontier Airlines

Frontier made some noise in late 2024 with a jaw-dropping offer: 55% off select flights for travelers 55 and older. While that promo may not be permanent, it’s worth keeping an eye out for similar deals.

American Airlines

The next time you book a flight with American Airlines, go to their official website and then select “Advanced/Multi-city search.” If a senior discount is available on the flight you’ve searched, it will automatically be applied.

Cruise Lines

There’s no vacation more relaxing than one spent cruising. And yes, seniors get plenty of love from the cruise industry, too.

Carnival Cruise Line

To guests aged 55 and above, Carnival Cruise Line offers reduced fares. But this offer is subject to availability. So, if you’re planning to book a vacation, check early for discounts.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean also extends senior discounts on its cruise travels, but only on certain sailings and only for those who are 55 years or older.

Celebrity Cruises

The exact savings that Celebrity Cruises offers seniors (55+) can vary. Some trips offer more generous cuts than others. The key here is to act quickly, as naturally, discounted cabins tend to sell out faster.

MSC Cruises

MSC keeps it nice and simple. Their Senior Club promo gives travelers 65 and older up to 10% off on all cruises.

Hotel Chains

Budget travel is not just about saving on transport, but also on accommodation. And because a day of sightseeing deserves a night of comfort, it’s nice when hotel chains give you a little price break, so you can experience luxury at a lower cost.

Hyatt

Guests aged 62 and up can enjoy up to 7% off resort-only rates at Hyatt. It may not sound like much at first glance, but when it’s a weeklong stay, the savings will quickly add up.

Omni Hotels

Omni Hotels & Resorts offers travelers over 55 years a discounted senior rate at more than 50 of their hotels and resorts across the country. And if you opt for their prepaid non-refundable rate, you can save even more.

Car Rentals

Whether it’s a scenic coastal drive or just getting from the airport to the hotel, renting a car often becomes part of the travel plan. Thankfully, some companies keep seniors in mind here, too. Hertz Car Rental, for instance, offers up to 20% off to travelers aged 50 and above.

Trains

Train journeys have an appeal of their own. It’s only with train traveling that you know what it’s like to enjoy the journey without stress. To make it better, some rail companies offer travel savings for seniors.

Amtrak

Amtrak keeps things very simple. If you’re 65 or above, you get a flat 10% discount across most routes. And for cross-border trips to Canada, the offer is available to seniors as young as 60.

New Jersey Transit

In New Jersey, seniors aged 62 and above can travel for half the official price. All you need to do is sign up for the NJ Transit Reduced Fare Program. This is a perk that can make regular commutes or day trips far more affordable.

AARP Perks

AARP membership might be the MVP of senior travel savings. At just $20 a year, it unlocks discounts across airlines, hotels, car rentals, and cruises.

Airlines

AARP members booking with British Airways can get up to $200 off on their round-trip flights.

Car rental

For AARP members, Avis car rental offers discounts of up to 35% off base rates. Likewise, you can rent a car for up to 30% off with other car rental services, such as Budget, Zipcar, and Payless, if you’re an AARP member.

Cruise

AARP memberships also unlock impressive offers on cruise bookings, such as a price cut of up to $100 per person on select cruises. For Collette cruise tours, you get a flat $50 discount, and for Grand European river sailings, a discount of $100. What’s even better is that booking through Expedia adds an extra $100 in onboard credits. Holland America Line cruise offers an even better deal, giving AARP members onboard credits of up to $200 per stateroom.

Hotels

AARP members can save up to 10% at over 30,000 properties worldwide, including hotel chains such as Best Western, Choice, Hilton, La Quinta, Marriott, and Wyndham.
