Unbelievable Secrets Behind the Pretty Woman Star’s Eternal Youth
"It's funny when people say, 'I don't think Julia likes me.' Honey, if I don't like you, you're going to know about it."
Julia Roberts has been America’s sweetheart for decades despite her fair share of controversies. Hollywood’s Pretty Woman sent shockwaves across the country when she waved at the crowds during the premiere of her 1999 hit Notting Hill. Dressed in a short-sleeved, sequinned, crimson shift dress, Roberts raised her arms to greet her fans. But what caught everyone’s attention was her unshaven underarms! The incident, fortunately, didn’t get in her way.
According to Roberts, going au naturel wasn’t a deliberate statement. She revealed on the show Busy Tonight, “I just hadn’t really calculated my sleeve length and the waving and how those two things would go together and reveal personal things about me.” She added, “So it wasn’t so much a statement, as it’s just part of the statement I make as a human on the planet, for myself.” She has, of course, moved on but continues to follow her own rules when it comes to beauty. While her style and fashion choices are quite visible, her skincare routine has been quite a secret, that is, until now!
The actress is known to follow a strict 5-step skincare routine almost every day. This is probably how she continues to look as radiant as she did when she was Pretty Woman’s Vivian, Julianne in My Best Friend’s Wedding, or Maggie as the Runaway Bride. She told PEOPLE, “As a responsible parent with three kids who love to be outdoors, I rely totally on a good sunblock.” For more active days, Roberts picks up one with SPF 30. She says it “keeps working no matter how sweaty or how much time we spend in the water! It’s magical.”
Additionally, Roberts always removes her makeup before bed. She is also keen on staying fresh and hydrated on the inside. She told Hollywood Life, “My hands get very dry from washing a lot of dishes…” and one of her go-to products is Absolue Hand cream. “It’s like butter—so hydrating and restorative,” she added.
Also, Roberts believes in nourishing the body from the inside. Food plays a big part in how the skin looks inside out, so she always tries to eat mindfully. She told the Toronto Sun, “We definitely try to eat mindfully.” She added, “As I always say to my kids, ‘You have to eat the good stuff to get the good stuff.’”
Finally, she works out at least four times a week, not just for healthy glowing skin but also to stay fit. “I don’t love exercise, but I do love how I feel afterwards,” the actor told The Independent. “Accomplishment, clarity, energy, strength, joy… these are all things I give myself through working out, and I can feel it in everything I do,” Roberts added.
