Julia Louis-Dreyfus, famous for her roles in TV shows like Seinfeld and Veep, has been in the entertainment industry for several years. The star is 62 and has frequently spoken about the challenges older women face in Hollywood and how society contributes to this. Moreover, to promote the voices of older women, she launched her podcast called Wiser Than Me, where she interviews older women and learns about their lives and experiences.
The actress says we often fail to dive deep into older women’s lives. She believes that they have lived and experienced so much that everyone can learn something from them. Her show specifically aims to give a platform to these voices, including notable individuals like Fonda, Fran Lebowitz, and Diane von Furstenberg.
In her interviews, Dreyfus has been excited to talk about aging. In one of her podcasts with the fashion mogul Furstenberg, the actress asked Furstenberg about her views on the phrase “aging gracefully.” Furstenberg responded that we should just call it “living gracefully.” The Seinfeld star also supports the idea of pro-aging and has, on occasion, spoken about embracing the changes her skin and body have undergone instead of going under the knife.
Dreyfus shared in an interview that she has been excited about getting older ever since she was young. Even as a teenager, she admired the beauty of older women and wanted to look older like her mother. When asked about her graceful looks, the actress credits her genes and a very basic skincare routine. She emphasizes the importance of drinking enough water for hydration, always removing makeup before bed, and wearing sunscreen religiously during the day. Also, she has a message for older women—do not overdo the foundation on the skin. While talking to The Huffington Post, she said, “Less really is more — especially when it comes to makeup. I’ve found that a huge mistake you can easily make that ages you instantly is putting on too heavy foundation. All it does is define the lines you have.”
The star has a busy schedule, often shooting throughout the day, and sometimes the schedule demands 17 hours on set with not enough sleep. However, she ensures she takes enough breaks to exercise and eats healthy snacks to feel good and stay fit. In her interview with The Huffington Post, she mentioned, “Besides hiking, I like spin classes … I think it’s so important and anyone feels better after they do it.”
While she has said in the past that she will not go under the knife to make any appearance changes, she’s glad her husband doesn’t support that idea either. “I like that he likes me as I am — that’s important to me,” she told Health Magazine in a 2013 interview.
