From being the Queen of Wakanda in Marvel’s Black Panther movies to playing Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do, Angela Bassett has an enviable range of roles under her belt. Whether TV or cinema, her talent has amazed everyone year after year. But it is not just her acting prowess that has made a lasting impact. One more thing has earned her popular acclaim—her flawless, seemingly ageless skin!
The actress appears not to have aged one bit since her fantastic performance in What’s Love Got to Do. And this movie came out ages ago, back in 1993! Decades later, Angela Bassett still looks as gorgeous as ever. Whether it’s her onscreen appearance or red carpet cameos, her skin has served looks since the beginning. Onlookers may believe that it’s her makeup working extra hard behind the scenes, but cosmetics only go so far. What is truly important is that the canvas, i.e., the skin, is healthy and well-maintained. Angela Bassett has taken very good care of her skin, and she’s done so with just a basic pantry staple!
As an A-list Hollywood star, she surely has access to well-kept secrets about skincare routines and also can have her pick of top skincare products (All of which probably cost a fortune). Besides, she also got together with German dermatologist Dr. Barbara Sturm. In 2016, Angela Bassett partnered with her to start a luxury skin-care line Skin of Color. The unisex Darker Skin Tones line debuted in July that year with two cleansers (foaming and exfoliating), two face creams (lighter and richer formulations) and a hyaluronic serum.
Despite her luxury skincare line, the actress still likes the basics. She once shared with the LA Times, “I have a lot of access to things, and I love lotions and potions and trying this and that. But after a while, I get overwhelmed.” That’s why the actress has stuck to a simple, barely $10 item that can be easily found in one’s pantry. Yes, it is coconut oil!
Her skincare routine and makeup products may have undergone a sea of change over the years, but coconut oil is the staple she has remained consistent with. “I always put on coconut oil—skin is the biggest organ,” she told the LA Times. It is well known that coconut oil has many beauty benefits, especially as a makeup remover and body balm.
The actress also follows a diligent skincare routine. She mentioned to the LA Times, “I use my cleanser, hyaluronic serum, light cream and Dr. Sturm eye cream. If I’m going to work out, I use an oxygen spritz by Skin By Mamie [Bassett’s facialist in New York]”. No wonder Angela Bassett’s skin has continued to look fabulous over the years. Age is truly just a number for this Queen of Wakanda.
