Named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) six times, co-owner of the NASCAR team 23XI, owner of a chain of restaurants, a few stints in Hollywood, Michael Jordan has done it all. What strikes fans the most is how the ex-NBA turned entrepreneur manages to look half his age, even in his sixties. As unbelievable as it may sound, a few reasons can help one understand how Mike has maintained his physique for so long.

A couple of exercises Michael usually took up include bicep curls, good mornings, deadlifts, power cleans, and bench presses. The basketball star also did core workouts two or three times per week. In an oral history of the 1996 Chicago Bulls by Complex, Tim Grover, Jordan’s trainer, described Mike’s typical routine in the 90s. “A typical day for Michael would start with about 30 or 40 minutes of conditioning in the [dome]. This would include stretching, running, and various basketball stuff, nothing long distance, to get his wind up. Then he’d go to the movie set for some shooting. At lunch time, he’d work out with weights for about an hour and a half. Then he’d go back to the set from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. From 7:30 p.m. to about 10 p.m., he’d play basketball in the [dome].”

Jordan adhered to the age-old adage, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” In his 1996 interview with the Chicago Tribune, Tim Grover mentioned that after Michael finished his morning workout, he would eat a healthy amount of protein and carbohydrates. For breakfast, the basketball legend would opt for a large bowl of oatmeal with assorted berries, scrambled eggs, and a glass of orange juice. Mid-morning, he would have a fitness shake made with protein powder and fresh fruit. For lunch, he would relish chicken breast sandwiches or lean hamburgers. For dinner, “Whatever he wants,” Tim added.

Ultimately, Jordan may have implemented his fitness routine from back in the day into his lifestyle today. The MVP does not waste his time either; he spends his time as an entrepreneur, constantly exploring new ventures. If someone had to ask Jordan today for a few inspiring words, an excerpt from one of his past interviews would fit perfectly. He stated, “If you’re trying to achieve something, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” That’s all it would take for anyone to be just like Mike.
