Christy Turlington, the 90s supermodel, continues to make her mark, not just on the ramp but also with her humanitarian work in maternal health care. Throughout her career, she walked the ramp for leading fashion houses, including Chanel and Valentino, and has been the face of Maybelline and Calvin Klein for years. But today, apart from dabbling in her first career—modeling, she devotes time to motherhood, advocacy, and her health.
In 2010, Turlington founded Every Mother Counts, an organization that works toward improving maternal health care, after she experienced childbirth complications herself. For Turlington and her team at Every Mother Counts, the goal is to help mothers get good quality, respectful, and equitable care during and after their pregnancy.
When it comes to her lifestyle, the supermodel subscribes to a more holistic approach today. Her love for yoga, meditation, and exercise has only grown. She also believes spending some time outdoors, taking care of her kids, and moving her body with intuition helps her stay happy. Spending some time outdoors also helps her fix her sleep cycle. At 55, she looks as radiant as ever! Ask her about beauty secrets, and all you get from her is the importance of sleep (and drinking enough water, of course). As for skincare, she has a simple morning routine—cleansing, exfoliation, hydrating essence, and some vitamin C.
Throughout her modeling career, we have witnessed Turlington’s fashionable side, from chic ensembles to free-spirited beach looks. Today, she has a different idea of beauty. In an interview with Get The Gloss, she said, “I really like the philosophy of ‘less is more.’ I want to see my skin and see my own features. I want to use products to enhance my features, but I don’t want to change or hide them. I prefer where the industry is now and the way I am perceived in photographs and films because I feel more like ‘me.’” This philosophy is also evident in her minimalist bedtime routine. She is not too strict about any rituals before bed and avoids anything too stimulating. She chooses to do things like walking her dogs outside, reading a book, and just focusing on getting enough rest!
Discussing aging, she told Harper’s Bazaar, “I don’t really have an anti-aging strategy. I accept it. It is what it is. I think about how I feel. So to me, yoga and running and doing work that is meaningful to me is the best way to look and feel good. I think happiness and living a life that you feel good in and you don’t feel compromised—that all makes a big difference to the way that you look. I don’t give a lot of thought to aging.”
